What the sizes mean
Under the standard revenue measure one Marla is 272.25 square feet, so a 5 Marla plot is about 1,361 square feet and a 10 Marla plot is about 2,722 square feet. A Kanal is 20 Marla. Developers sometimes use slightly different figures in brochures, so ask for the dimensions in feet and the total area in square feet in the written offer.
5 Marla plots
- Lower total cost, which suits first-time buyers and smaller budgets.
- Suits a compact family home, usually built over more than one floor.
- Generally attractive on resale because more buyers can afford them.
10 Marla plots
- More room for a larger house, parking and a garden.
- Higher total cost, and construction costs also rise with the covered area.
- Popular with families who plan to build and live there long term.
